PONTE VEDRA BEACH – Florida State is well represented this weekend at The Players with three of the four former Seminoles surviving the cut.
Jonas Blixt, who enters today 10-under par and tied for third, five strokes behind leader Jason Day, touted coach Trey Jones and how he’s brought the program to another level.
“I think it’s the coach,” said Blixt, who graduated from FSU in 2008. “Trey Jones, he really brought it to another level. I was his first recruiting class and nothing against the guys there on the team at that point but we weren’t doing that great. And then he kept bringing in better and better players. And they’re a powerhouse right now, in my opinion.”
Florida State is ranked No. 11 nationally this week. The Seminoles were 11th in last year’s NCAA tournament. On Thursday, FSU senior Hank Lebioda was name ACC Player of the Year
Blixt and fellow Seminoles Jupiter’s Daniel Berger and Wellington’s Brooks Koepka made the cut. Berger is 7 under and Koepka is 8 under.
George McNeill missed the cut by one stroke, shooting a 1-under 143 for 36 holes.
