ESPN’s Mel Kiper is not too high on Florida State RB Dalvin Cook.

Kiper waited less than two weeks to post his first draft “Big Board” for 2017 and although two Seminoles are in his top 25, Cook, FSU’s top Heisman Trophy candidate, is not on his top 25 players. In fact, Kiper didn’t even have Cook among the five names he listed under “others considered.”

Kiper has OT Rod Johnson at No. 10 and DE DeMarcus Walker No. 19. Johnson is the No. 2 OT behind Alabama’s Cam Robinson. Walker is the fifth DE listed.

Here is what Kiper said about Johnson:

The 6-foot-7 Johnson has been dominant as a left tackle since the Noles coaches moved him there halfway through his freshman season. He was superb as a true sophomore and is another good season away from a possible top-10 draft slot.

Here is what he said about Walker:

At 6-foot-3 and 273 pounds, Walker has the frame you look for on the edge in a 4-3 base. He broke out as a pass-rusher last year, with 10.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss. Another leap this season could lock him into the first-round mix.

As for running backs, Kiper listed two: LSU’s Leonard Fournette as the No. 3 prospect and Georgia’s Nick Chubb at No. 25.

Kiper, though, appears in the minority. Cook appears in several early mock drafts/big boards. SB Nation compiled 11 such drafts/big boards and Cook is one of eight players who appears in all 11, with an average ranking of 13.5.

Cook is as high as No. 5 by Yahoo and is in the top 10 of four mock drafts.
